I plan to spend some times in Haiti in August through September 2013. I would like very much to help the Haitian effort by staying at the new Royal Oasis being a Haitian American. I do not want to be disappointed like the person who left the previous comment. A swimming pool is very important in a hotel , specially in Haiti . I hope that the swimming pool will be functioning by the time I get there and the rooms will affordable for the Haitians. What is the rate for a single room? Thanks.
This hotel has no pool as advertised, they say there is a rooftop pool but it is not available for use so it should be removed from the website. The shuttle, they tell you it's not available and give you a taxi for $50, the problem is, it seem like it's run by the staff, bad bad bad business. Not worth the money and will not stay there again. OH the staff was nice though but it was not worth the money. A hotel staff's name is on the taxi's business card, bad bad... Next time, I will go to Karibe
Do you have any new clips about this new Hotel? It was supposed to finish this summer but so far there are no new posts on it. I find it weird how these people don't seem to know the importance of free advertising. It always amazes me how Haitians tend to claim other people only show the ugly or the bad sides of Haiti to the world but none of them seems to take the time to film the nicer & prettier sides of Haiti & post them on youtube. IT IS FREE PEOPLE TO POST ON YOUTUBE! Get with it HAITIANS
Haiti is Now ready for the world Dance Sport Championship...Hope there is a Grand Ballroom
with a 3000sf Dance floor. Let's include Compas Dancing as part of the youth education. Stop the critic. It's moving for good. A National Dance Council for Haiti is a must under ministry of culture. See what you can do for our country instead.
The Haitian Diaspora has been contributed to Haiti since the day we were subjected to leave Haiti whether for political or economical reasons. No other diaspora has sent more money to their native countries than the Haitians which mounted to 3 billions yearly. The problems of Haiti are as I've stated; you have the people in government who know SHIT about Economic, Politics & Law. Check Dominican Republic next door, their Presidents have been ECONOMISTS including the new elected one!
ROADMAP TO HAITI’S NEXT REVOLUTION: A Plan for Diaspora Haitians to Contribute to a Peaceful Turnaround is a book that creates an endogenous and concerted Diaspora Plan for Haiti. Get a copy now at iuniverse.KOM. Lack of progressive government is direct consequence of Haiti's mulatto ideology, the essence of squalor, the doctrine of Haiti's elite since the days of Petion, Boyer. You do never have the wrong individuals as leaders - they just are not leaders but only chiefs. No, Socialism does not
The disparity in the wealth is caused not by the Elite but because of the lack of good governence. Remember, Haiti is the land of COUP D'ETAT & Leaders who believe that they should govern with absolute power. Democracy is not quite understood in Haiti & the politicians aren't people who study politics but people who believe politic = revolution. Such leaves a gap where the Elite who are merchants instead of REAL BOURGEOIS with an ABSOLUTE MONOPOLY on the economy. As a result the masses suffer!
Never have I stated or accused the masses of being lazy. If you read my arguments, they all emphasized on the fact that Haiti has been doomed with having the WRONG INDIVIDUALS as leaders. We, Haitians tend to thrive wherever we go & we are giving opportunities. My points & arguments still stand; whatever government who thinks that Haiti can move by alienate & eliminate the elite is doomed to fail. How many leaders have we had who held a dregree in political science, economy or law....NONE!
Correct- it's the rich who develop countries, not the poor, but it's ridiculous to think the poor remain poor because they're lazy- there is a disparity in the wealth, and that wealth is restricted to a certain element of the population, so how do you expect the poor and illiterate masses to be productive, when they don't live in an atmosphere conducive to productivity? For the poor masses, it's hard enough just trying to survive, so you can't expect them to prioritize education.
I support the Martelly regime 100% cause he understands the mechanism of economy. A government that provides its people with everything is a socialist governement & in return everyone must be a member of the party in order to get subsidies & positions in the government. Remember the Duvaliers, one has to be a Tonton Macout in order to get anything. With the majority of Haitians being illiterate the roads ahead isn't going to be smooth or fast. Yes the rich will get richer is common mathematic!
This is not about being fond of the Elite. First of all we need to have an elite in our country. It is much better when it is your elite who owns the wealth of the country instead of foreign corporations. I would not prefer Haiti to be like DR where every damn thing is foreign owned & the government is only there to make sure that the people serve the foreigners. It's rich people who build countries not the poor. It's thru education we can move the masses forward faster not thru hand outs!
I'm impressed with this administration, not so much with "sweet micky", but Laurent Lamothe- we have a smart, trilingual, well-spoken and educated guy like that to represent us; although i don't doubt there will be some corruption. Haiti is NOT poor, if you didn't know, they have discovered huge oil reserves that is rumored to be more than venezuela, in conjunction with the newly discovered gold mines- i hope Haiti gets it right this time.
The Haitian elite isn't wealthy because of slavery or corruption through governements. The Elite in Haiti is mostly the merchant class & the educated class, such have always given them absolute monopoly of the country's economy & wealth. Like in all the islands in the Caribbean the elites are descendents of mulatoes & Syrians who migrated in the early 1900's. The masses in Haiti have always resented the mulatoes in power but when the black men are in power they will only marry a mulata.
I'm not denying that the western powers collaborated to make Haiti what it is right now, but like you said, the Haitian leaders played a part in this too; one example is duvalier, he left the country with most of Haiti's money when he was exiled, and whether you know it or not, there is still a minority that owns all of the wealth, it's composed of whites and some mulattos, which you seem to be fond of. But i'm somewhat optimistic better times are ahead.
THERE ISN'T SUCH THING AS A POOR COUNTRY BUT THERE IS SUCH THING AS A POORLY GOVERNED COUNTRY! Haiti has been poorly governed by many different regimes throughout its history. PapaDoc for example was a countrymen doctor who loathed the elite & literally eliminated & alienated all of them. BabyDoc was only 19 with no political experiences & literally lived a playboy lifestyle. Aristide was a priest & like PapaDoc divided the classes & alienated the elite in order to manipulate the masses.
First of all you need to know the facts about Haiti presently & historically. Haiti isn't poor because of the Elite. Haiti has been poor since independence because of the heavy debt that was put on her by the French to repay reparations for losing it. The US backed France & made sure Haiti paid every cent. The US since day 1 had seen Haiti as a threat because of its own slavery which you know ended only through a civil war. Subsequent Haitians Leaders didn't help either since most were ignorant.
The person you're arguing with, i think there's an element of truth her criticism but it's directed at the wrong people. If in fact this hotel is 100% Haitian owned, that's good news, and a big step in the right direction. It's been promulgated that Haiti has vast mineral wealth and billions in natural resources; The question is will that wealth be allocated to the masses, or the minority elite? Probably the later, in this aspect i feel her criticism is legitimate.
